F250R’s Ford F-250 MegaRaptor Is Nothing Short of Insane
The MegaRaptor can tow a house and rip across sand dunes in the same afternoon.
The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is already a monster, thanks in part to its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 making 450 horsepower. But apparently, that isn't enough for some people. Fortunately, the maniacs at F250R are turning 2005-2016 F-250s into heavy-duty off-road pickup trucks the company calls "MegaRaptors" and "SuperRaptors." From what The Drive can tell, the primary difference between to two monsters is the MegaRaptor sits on 46 inch tires while the SuperRaptor sits on 40 inch tires.
Starting off with a 6.7-liter PowerStroke V8 F-250 or F-350, F250R guts the truck, widens the stance, adds a lift kit and body kit, and eventually transforms a workhorse into a race horse. The first thing to come off are the fenders and wheels. Although the Ford F-250 is plenty sturdy and capable of tackling moderate offroading, it can't handle the beating F250R wants customers to be able to perform on their rigs. In order to make the truck desert- and rock-ready, F250R puts on fender flares and a 4-inch lift to house the massive 46-inch Michelin XZL tires and MRAP aluminum wheels.
Since F250R builds the MegaRaptor and SuperRaptor to be a larger version of the F-150 Raptor, the trucks need to be able to barrel over dunes. With that in mind, F250R equipped them with Bilstein 5100 Shocks and multipack rear leaf springs. The hood, taillights, rear quarter panel, and much more are custom-made to resemble the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor. However, the hood utilizes a clamshell style opening system.
Although F250R will build a 6.2-liter V8 gasoline MegaRaptor or SuperRaptor, it strongly recommends customers use a 6.7-liter PowerStroke V8. Pricing for a 6.7-liter Powerstroke F-250 XL 4x4 starts at $44,125; when combined with the base F250R package ($28,000), you can expect to be paying at least $72,125 for your HD off-road machine. If you have any change left over, F250R has plenty of options like lighting packages, spare tire racks, and leather seating, which can shoot your build cost well into the $80,000 range.
If you feel the 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque 6.7-liter PowerStroke V8 isn't enough, customers can get an option exhaust package that adds an astounding 140 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. That brings the SuperRaptor and MegaRaptor power ratings to 580 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque.
