We may not know the exact specs of General Motors's forthcoming super sports car just yet, but if even half the rumors about [the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette ZR1](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/8511/watch-a-chevy-corvette-zr1-test-mule-roar-around-laguna-seca>) are true, the C7-generation 'Vette's swan song will likely go down in the history books as one of the most spectacular American speed machines ever made.

Especially if it can set a Nurburgring record.

A YouTube car spotter who goes by the handle of [Carspotter Jeroen caught Chevy's new *wunder*-Vette kicking ass and taking names at the Nurburgring Nordschleife](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=welIEAlLl_0>) again recently, giving us our best look yet at the car. More importantly, the camerman is clever enough to seemingly clock [one of the ZR1's laps](<https://www.thedrive.com/watch-this/9525/watch-the-chevrolet-corvette-zr1-prototype-attack-the-nrburgring>) on his iPhone. Even though the Corvette in question was running the circuit while the 'Ring was clogged up with other, presumably-lesser cars, the ZR1 apparently managed to run around the 12.9-mile course in a hair's breath less than 7:30.

For comparison, the [previous Corvette ZR1 managed a 7:19.63 lap of the Nordschleife back in 2011](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoJraaxJ658>)—but that was a balls-to-the-wall hot lap, not one with the window down and a Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class blocking the track ahead. It seems all but guaranteed that the new super-Vette will be able to beat its predecessor around the track; what's less clear is whether it will be able to beat [the current production car lap record holder, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/7998/lamborghini-huracan-performante-shatters-nurburgring-record-by-5-seconds>). Like that Lambo, the [2018 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is expected to offer active aerodynamics](<https://www.thedrive.com/tech/8601/will-the-chevy-corvette-zr1-use-active-aerodynamics>) to optimize grip—but unlike the Huracan, the Corvette won't have the corner exit-benefitting advantage of all-wheel-drive.

Then again, the ZR1 is likely to pack a 'roided-out version of the Z06's motor delivering at least 700 horsepower. So maybe it'll even out in the end.
