Italian Police Allegedly Foil Plot to Steal Enzo Ferrari’s Body
The discovery of the plan was reportedly made during an arms and drug trafficking investigation.
On Tuesday, Italian investigators announced that they had successfully intervened in an a plot to allegedly steal Enzo Ferrari's body from its tomb and hold it for ransom, according to Reuters.
Although details were scarce at the time of publication, police in Nuoro—a city in Sardinia, Italy—said they discovered the plan during an investigation into arms and drug trafficking in the region. Police said during a news conference that the gang suspected to be responsible for the plot was going to demand a ransom from either the Ferrari family or the supercar company itself, after exhuming Ferrari's body and stealing away with it.
Ferrari died in 1988 at the age of 90, not long after giving his sign-off on the fabled Ferrari F40 supercar. His body is buried in a family tomb near the Ferrari plant in the San Cataldo cemetery in Modena...where it will hopefully stay for quite some time.
