You Can Put a Deposit Down on Lucid Motors’s 1,000-HP Electric Car As of Now

If you have $2,500 laying around, you can now reserve a Lucid Air. Unless you want the launch edition version of the electric car, in which case...you'll need 10 times that.

Lucid Motors is now accepting deposits toward the Lucid Air, the California-based automaker’s 1,000-horsepower four-door electric sedan.

For $2,500, you can reserve a standard edition Lucid Air—or if you want something a bit more special, Lucid is offering 255 launch edition cars that can be reserved for $25,500 each. As with any reasonable deposit, it’s refundable, so if you lose interest in the car or the money you were going to spend on the rest of the car disappears, you can have your money back without issue. That’s probably a good thing, since the actual pricing for the Air hasn’t been announced—though our guess is it will start at more than $100,000.

The Lucid Air will pack serious range

The car will have a fully-electric range of 400 miles and will be capable of launching from zero to 60 in 2.5 seconds, Engadget reports.

To sweeten the deal for any potential buyers (and provide perfect drool material for those who put their deposits in early), Lucid uploaded a video on Monday of the car hitting the road near the company’s home base in the San Francisco Bay area. The company will be bringing the prototype out to two events in Orange County, California this weekend, too—so if you’re an EV fanatic who live in SoCal, you might want to check it out.
