Cadillac has been doing a fantastic job with the current lineup, but it's no secret they're lacking variety in the SUV-and-crossover category. At the moment, Cadillac only offers the XT5 crossover and the Escalade.

But according to Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen, the brand intends to build a smaller crossover called the XT3 by second half of 2018, and rumors abound about the involvement of the Fairfax County Assembly Plant (where the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Malibu are built) in that process. Both vehicles are based off the E2XX platform, which is modified to accommodate the XT5 (C2XX). In order for either platform to work for the XT3, GM would most likely have to shorten the platform; therefore, a shared platform with the Chevy Trax or Buick Encore, instead, is not out of the question.

That being said, this still exists mostly in the realm of speculation, and we can’t give a true guess on the platform until we know more. In addition, de Nysschen confirmed a three-row crossover called the XT7 is still in the works, and GM is improving the Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant (where the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse are built). It remains unclear which platform the XT7 will use, but the Lansing expansion is a good indication.
