When it comes to stupidly-cool-yet-rather-impractical cop cars, the Dubai police department is usually the first force to spring to mind—but the Middle East is hardly the only place where sports cars have been conscripted into law enforcement. Tucked away in the depths of Japan, there lies at least one R34-generation Nissan Skyline police car still hard at work hunting down scofflaws.

The rare R34 cop car was spotted on the Kan-Etsu expressway, according to YouTube user Adam Zillin, who posted the footage of the car in action online. Zillin described it as a “unicorn,” and with good reason; while reports of the police Skyline have reportedly been bouncing around the world of Japanese car enthusiasts for years, actual real-world appearances of the car in the wild have been less common than Bigfoot sightings.

After all, it’s not like this police car is exactly fresh off the factory floor. The R34-generation Nissan Skyline was only in production from 1999 to 2002, which means this particular cop car is almost old enough to join the police force of its own consent by now. (Then again, considering the age of some of the police vehicles we still have kicking around New York City’s streets, we can’t say it’s all that shocking to see at least one of these special supercars kicking around.)

Sadly, the video is short on specifics, so we don’t know exactly which police department this R34 Skyline happens to work for, or where on the lengthy Kan-Etsu this video was taken. So if you happen to know more (or speak Japanese and can translate any of the markings on the car), please, let us know in the comments below.
