America's famous Mustang tuner-turned-sports car company has resurrected its iconic supercar: The Saleen S7 is back and more powerful than ever before, in the form of the new S7 LE.

Assuming the beleaguered Saleen is actually able to crank out some new versions of the S7, the company claims it will use its 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to crank out 1,000 horsepower, and that each car the car builder makes will be built to a unique configuration, with different liveries, interiors, and wheel choices. Only seven examples of what Saleen CEO Steve Saleen calls "America's only true supercar"  will be built. (Take that, Hennessey.)

Beyond that, details on the return of the S7 remain scarce for the moment. It is unclear how much each car will cost, when they will be built, or how fast they will be capable of moving. For reference, Top Gear notes that the previous version of the S7 was able to hit 248 miles per hour and had a zero to 60 time of 2.8 seconds...and that was with 250 fewer ponies. Each of the seven supercars will be hand-built at Saleen's headquarters in Corona, California.

As for its looks—well, based on the one image the company provided in the press release, we can assume it will still look like a Saleen S7, but with a bit of extra flair and customization. The illustrate is also some exposed carbon fiber on the side skirts, hood, and roof. (And no, it hasn't been given a long-tail treatment à la the McLaren 675LT; the S7 always looked like that.)

Let's do a little theoretical math here. If the previous, 750-hp S7 was capable of topping 248 mph, how fast could a 1000-hp version go? Should other supercar and hypercar makers be worried that the "new" Saleen could grab the title of world's fastest production car?
