The Karma Revero Is Basically the Fisker Karma With a New Name

And a much heftier price tag.

What was once a not-so successful electric car is now getting another chance at life. The Karma Revero, formerly the Fisker Karma, is the world's freshest-yet-not-so fresh electric car.

The then-influential Fisker Karma was first introduced at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. At the time, there was no Tesla Model S for it to face off against, and the American automotive industry as a whole was rather shaky place. In the near-decade since, however, the world has changed quite a bit; the auto industry has bounced back with a vengeance, and electric vehicles have gone from a sideshow to a major part of most car company's future. Yet the Karma returns largely unchanged, distinguished from its '08 version by a handful of tweaks and a slightly different name.

This "new" Karma, to be known from here on out as the Karma Revero (Fisker was bought by Chinese company Wanxiang following a length bankruptcy filing), looks like the old Karma—and has pretty much the same specs. Of note, the Revero has hand-painted emblems, a new infotainment system, and what the newly-founded Karma Automotive describes as "super-charging capabilities." (Tesla's lawyers, please note the hyphen.) The automotive manufacturer also claims the Revero is the first car to be sold in the United States that can completely charge itself by using its own solar roof, though it's unclear how long that might take.

The Revero is reportedly capable of doing zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds, has a top speed of 125 mph, can maintain a fuel economy rating of 52 mpg-e combined, and has an electric range of 50 miles, which is a jump from the previous model's 32-mile range.

As for its cost, the previous Karma was priced just short of $90,000, but the Revero is expected to run between $125,000 and $150,000, Jalopnik reports. Expensive, yes—and we aren't exactly sure why, since everything else about the car seems to be the same. If you're really longing for a Karma, we say save yourself some green and pick up a used Fisker for around $50,000. But if you insist on owning a brand-new car, the Revero will be available for order starting September 8th.
