Time to break out the checkbooks, folks. Chevrolet has announced that the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 coupe starts at a mere $62,135, with the Camaro ZL1 convertible going for exactly $7,000 more. Short of buying a crate motor, that makes the ZL1 the cheapest way by far to bring home the General's rollicking LT4 engine.

According to Chevrolet, that 60-plus-grand will buy you a 650-horsepower Camaro capable of ripping from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 11.4 seconds at 127 mph. It can grip for 1.02 g in the turns, and those big ol' Brembo calipers can haul it down from 60 to a dead stop in 107 feet. Does those sound like the numbers of a car that can lap the Nurburgring in less than 7:30, Barry? Yes they do, Other Barry. Yes they do.

(GM is quick to qualify that those stats apply to a ZL1 coupe equipped with the new 10-speed automatic transmission, which means those of us who prefer to row your own way through the gearbox may not be able to rip off such impressive acceleration times. We at The Drive can live with that.)

And of course, as General Motors product chief Mark Reuss showed off with flair at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year, the Camaro ZL1 also comes with a two-mode line lock, should you have difficulty performing burnouts in a 650-hp muscle car without electronic assistance.

While it was sending out a press release, Chevy also took this opportunity to drop the pricing information for the Camaro 1LE models. For V6 cars, the 1LE package will cost an extra $4,500; check the 1LE box for a V8-powered Camaro SS, and it'll elevate the MSRP by $6,500. That means a V6 Camaro 1LE should run you a minimum of $32,300, while a V8 Camaro 1LE ought to start at $43,405. (We're unsure if the packages require any additional options beyond the appropriate engine, such as the V6 model's RS Package.)

Spring for the 1LE V6, and Chevrolet promises you'll have a car that can run from 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds, grip the skidpad at up to 0.97 g, and go from 60 to 0 in 112 feet. Choose the V8-powered 1LE, and the 0-60 time falls to 4.2 seconds, the 60-0 drops to 107 feet, and cornering reaches a ZL1-rivalling 1.02 g.

The Camaro ZL1 and 1LE models go on sale later this year.
