# Every New Ferrari On Sale Today Has Faulty Takata Airbags

According to the U.S. Senate, every new car [sold by Ferrari today uses faulty Takata airbags](<https://www.autonews.com/article/20160720/OEM11/160729985/daimler-ferrari-selling-some-new-vehicles-with-faulty-airbags-senate>) that will be scheduled to be recalled by the end of 2018, *Automotive News* reported on Wednesday. Several new Mercedes-Benz models are affected as well.

The vehicles, however, remain legal to sell and drive in the U.S., as the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has stated the bad airbags remain safe unless exposed to unusually high levels of humidity for an extremely long time. Which, considering the tendency of most Ferrari owners to garage their cars in air-conditioned sanctuaries, seems rather unlikely for most of the sports cars in question.

[Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL)](<https://www.billnelson.senate.gov>) stated that the afflicted Ferrari models are [the FF](<https://www.thedrive.com/supercars/1804/supercar-or-snowmobile>), [the 488 GTB](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/4298/we-drifted-a-ferrari-488-gtb-at-monticello-motor-club>), [the 488 Spider](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/531/love-and-breakups-in-a-ferrari-488-spider>), [the California T](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2350/critics-notebook-2016-ferrari-california-t>), [the F12berlinetta](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/3168/say-goodbye-to-the-ferrari-f12berlinetta>), [the F12 TdF](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/4054/this-1-5-million-ferrari-f12-tdf-sold-in-one-day>), and [the GTC4Lusso](<https://www.thedrive.com/test-drives/4228/the-ferrari-gtc4lusso-is-fast-ferocious-and-close-to-perfect>). Which happens to be every car Ferrari sells today in America. (We don't count [the LaFerrari Apertas](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/4262/ferrari-laferrari-spider-revealed-will-be-called-laferrari-aperta>), as it hasn't reached the U.S. yet, and it's already sold out. Besides, odds seem good it will fall under the recall too, unless Ferrari has decided it needs a different airbag source for its open-top supercar.) On the Mercedes-Benz side, the 2016 [Sprinter](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/324/driving-a-mercedes-benz-sprinter-to-the-best-damn-city-in-america>) van and the 2016/2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe and convertible have been diagnosed with the bad Takata airbags.

According to the report, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz will tell their dealers to inform owners of the affected vehicles that the cars will be subject to a recall in the future. In the meantime, *The Drive* recommends any Ferrari owners uncomfortable driving their cars send them to us for temporary care.
