Please Leave the Nice Woman Who Has Elon Musk’s Old Phone Number Alone

Having the Tesla CEO’s old phone number is interesting—and annoying.

Robocalls are an annoying inconvenience for all of us, but they're not nearly as interesting as the unsolicited calls and texts Lyndsay Tucker has been receiving. The 25-year-old skincare consultant works at a Sephora beauty store in San Jose, California. She also has Elon Musk's old phone number. As NPR reported today, that can be pretty interesting.

Tucker says she started receiving the messages a few years ago after Musk apparently ditched the number, and she received it. She claims—and she's remarkably lucky in this regard—she did not know who Musk was at the time. "I asked my mom, 'Hey, I keep getting these text messages'—and I was also now starting to get phone calls—'for this guy Elon Musk. I don't know who this is,' " Tucker said. "And my mom's jaw just dropped."

Man, imagine living in that universe. One where Elon Musk does not exist and has never tweeted. I'm slipping into this surreal, happiness coma just thinking about it. Just give me a minute here—I'm in a good place.

Anyway. NPR says Tucker receives at least three calls or texts intended for Musk every day. That's how the author of the piece found out about Tucker in the first place—attempting to inquire with the tech billionaire about the recent controversy surrounding Tesla's possible departure from the state of California

Tucker says the calls and texts come in especially thick when there's controversy surrounding Musk's or Tesla's actions. Good thing the father of X Æ A-12 isn't known for that sort of thing.

Messages concerning robotic limbs, tax issues, possible employment, and other topics have streamed in. Tucker usually replies to tell the people that they're not actually talking to Musk, but they don't always believe her.

When NPR's story was published, they reached out to Musk to get a comment. In response to the situation, Musk briefly replied, "Wow, That number is so old! I'm surprised it's still out there somewhere."

Despite the incessant calls & texts from the likes of a former Disney executive and old colleagues of Musk, Tucker says she plans to keep the number. If I were her, that phone would be in the neighbor's pool by now, but she has a lot more patience than me.

"I'm sorry. Sometimes I don't respond if I'm having a rough day. So if you didn't get a response, it's probably me, not him," she said. "Don't feel too let down."
