[First teased last month](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/10122/need-for-speed-back-for-2017-reintroduces-ability-to-pause-game>), video game publisher Electronic Arts has revealed an official trailer for the next installment of their long-running *Need for Speed* racing franchise, *Need for Speed Payback*. It's set to continue to the tradition of [*Fast & Furious*-inspired gaming](<https://www.thedrive.com/gear-up/1081/why-need-for-speed-is-the-fast-and-furious-game-we-never-got>) that dates back to the first *Underground* from 2003. Oh, and its box art gives us a fully uncovered, animated look at the yet-to-be-revealed, next-generation BMW M5.

Modified cars, brooding male protagonists, mobile truck heists, and unwavering crew loyalty (for now) all feature in *Payback*'s first official cinematic reveal [trailer](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc-OcOduEx0>). EA says players will experience the game's open world of Fortune Valley through the eyes of not one but *three* "distinct characters united by one common goal: revenge"—no doubt inspired by *Grand Theft Auto V*'s Michael-Franklin-Trevor setup.

Abandoned, presumably rare vehicles will be scattered and hidden throughout the game, waiting for the player's discovery a la *Forza Horizon*'s Barn Finds. And yeah, in addition to the box art, the thumbnail for the trailer also gives an undisguised glimpse of the next-generation [BMW M5](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/9861/the-next-bmw-m5-will-also-have-drift-mode-report-claims>). Take a look:

From EA's press release:

> "This explosive adventure is filled with intense heist missions, high stakes car battles, epic cop pursuits and jaw dropping set pieces. It’s blockbuster gameplay never before seen from the series, fueled by a gripping story of betrayal and revenge."

> — EA

So they're going for a playable *Fast & Furious* movie, essentially. *Payback*'s single player story will be playable beginning-to-end entirely offline. That means yes, [you will be able to pause the game to go to the bathroom](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/10122/need-for-speed-back-for-2017-reintroduces-ability-to-pause-game>)—a feature that was famously and frustratingly missing from this game's predecessor. And here's that box art with its close-up look at the new BMW M5's front end in full:

**Electronic Arts**

Those who pre-order the game will instantly receive the Platinum Car Pack in-game bonus that includes customized versions of the following:

- 2008 Nissan 350Z
- 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS
- 1969 Dodge Charger R/T
- 2016 Ford F-150 Raptor
- 2016 Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport

For the die-hard *NFS* fan, *Payback*'s Deluxe Edition grants access to the game three days early along with exclusive in-game customization items. *Need for Speed Payback* comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 10th, 2017. More details are set to be revealed at EA's E3 press conference [scheduled](<https://ca.ign.com/wikis/e3/E3_2017_Live_Streams_and_Press_Conferences>) for June 10th.
