The [Jaguar F-Pace hasn't even reached showrooms yet](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/1805/if-the-f-pace-sucks-jaguar-is-dead>), but the car maker is reportedly already hard at work on a version of their new SUV that will put all the other ones to shame. Envision an extra-sporty version of the F-Pace that packs a supercharged V8 engine beneath its contoured hood, and you're moving in the right direction.

[According to](<https://blog.caranddriver.com/jaguar-to-launch-svo-engineered-f-pace-xe-a-possibility/>) *[Car and Driver](<https://blog.caranddriver.com/jaguar-to-launch-svo-engineered-f-pace-xe-a-possibility/>)*, Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations division is cranking away on a performance version of the F-Pace that will make more than 500 horsepower, thanks to the blown 5.0-liter, eight-cylinder engine found in everything from [the F-Type R](<https://www.thedrive.com/supercars/217/driving-a-jaguar-f-type-r-to-the-best-damn-fireworks-shop-in-america>) to [the Range Rover Autobiography](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2491/critics-notebook-2016-range-rover-autobiography-long-wheelbase>). Considering every one of its major competitors—cars like the [BMW X4 M40i](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2253/driving-the-x4-m40i-bmws-undercover-porsche-macan-killer>), Porsche Macan Turbo, and [Mercedes-AMG GLC43](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2605/the-mercedes-amg-glc43-is-yes-another-turbo-six-powered-amg-benz>)—packs a forced-induction six-cylinder, Jaguar appears intent on bringing a Desert Eagle to a knife fight.

Prototypes of the F-Pace SVR (as such an SUV would likely be called) are purportedly already running around, presumably in super-secret testing locations where Jaguar's employees can properly hoon test the superpowered sport-ute. If given the green light for production, the speedy F-Pace supposedly could be on sale by 2017.

Of course, assuming the V8-powered F-Pace becomes a thing, it wouldn't remain the uncontested king of the small SUV hill for long. [Mercedes-Benz is reportedly working on a GLC63 AMG](<https://autoweek.com/article/car-news/mercedes-amg-glc-63-will-turbocharge-your-school-run>) that packs [the same 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 and nine-speed transmission as the next E63 AMG](<https://www.caradvice.com.au/428684/mercedes-amg-glc63-to-make-use-of-new-e63-drivetrain-will-not-use-c63-bits/>). [Audi is supposedly developing an RS Q5](<https://www.motoring.com.au/audi-rs-q5-in-development-46989/>) that would likely pick up the turbocharged eight-pot shared amongst the S6, S7, [S8 Plus](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2910/audis-flagship-s8-still-has-what-it-takes>), and [RS7](<https://www.thedrive.com/accelerator/965/man-vs-machine-how-i-defeated-audis-autonomous-rs7>). And if those two are going all-in on compact performance sport-utes, [BMW likely won't be far behind with an X3 M or X4 M](<https://www.bmwblog.com/2014/11/02/g01-bmw-x3-m40i-bmw-x3-m-arrive-2017/>).

After all, as brands from [Bentley](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/2012/the-bentley-bentayga-is-the-most-expensive-suv-ever>) to [Porsche](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/729/now-the-porsche-cayenne-is-implicated-in-dieselgate>) have learned, powerful luxury SUVs are like banana stands: [There's always money in them](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvAu2JEGWBM>).
