Today, after announcing 4,015 sales in December Porsche has confirmed that 2016 has been their best US sales year in the company's history. A grand total of 54,280 Porsche vehicles were sold here in the 2016 calendar year, nearly 5% up on the previous year. This growth can be attributed entirely to strong Macan sales growth, as all other models actually saw a sales decline over the same period. Macan distribution even outpaced Porsche's venerable Cayenne, which has traditionally been their sales leader since it was introduced, accounting for just over 35% of the year's sales total. Cayenne sales remained strong, despite some customers likely opting for the smaller and less expensive Macan. Sports car sales of 911 and Boxster/Cayman models saw a slight dip, likely as sales of the old model decreased while the new turbocharged models were rolled out to dealers this year. Similarly, a new Panamera is just being delivered to dealers now, and a slight sales dip can be attributed to an incoming improved model.

Klaus Zellmer, President & CEO, Porsche Cars North America:

"Our product offensive continued to thrive with the arrival of 23 new model variants in 2016. As a result, we achieved our seventh consecutive year of increased sales. I am confident we will see steady growth in 2017 with balanced supply and demand."

Joe Lawrence, EVP & COO, Porsche Cars North America:

"Macan sales accelerated strongly in 2016 with the introduction of new variants. Porsche plug-in hybrid sales were also promising with 2,111 Cayenne S E-Hybrid models retailed, a 92 percent increase over 2015. In 2017, we look forward to the highly anticipated, all-new Panamera, as well as the first full year of sales for our new 911 and 718 sports car models."

2016 was also a strong year for Porsche's Certified Pre-Owned program, selling an impressive 16,981 units. This constitutes a 15.1% increase over 2015 sales.
