Yesterday on their company Instagram account, Greddy Racing announced a brand new Hot Wheels casting that will feature their 1990s Porsche livery over an amazing new Mark Jones designed 962 blank. According to The Lamley Group, this new casting will feature as part of a new "Race Day" assortment coming later in 2017. The Greddy livery is simple, but it sure is memorable, and makes for an excellent start to this design.

Perhaps even more exciting than the casting itself is the addition of those brand new wheels. Lovingly dubbed the "Real Rider Aero" wheel, this is a game changer in the world of Hot Wheels. This style of aero wheel was very popular in the 1980s and early 1990s among racers and tuning houses alike. This could signal the addition of a number of new castings from this era of motorsport history, which I am personally very excited for. Adding these wheels to existing castings like their Porsche 935 Moby Dick or even the Porsche 934 that has been used a lot lately would give either of them an era-appropriate wheel design that would really set them apart among collectors like myself.

Porsche's 962 ran in so many memorable liveries that I'm sure Mattel will be sure to use in the coming years. I know that these are just childrens toys, but whenever there is a new Porsche casting, I get really excited and want to buy them all in every different color. Keep your eyes peeled for one of these hanging on the pegs at your local supermarket. It's a cheap way to add a little more Porsche to your life.
