On today's edition of Drive Wire, The Drive discusses the news that Australian safety advocates are outraged at Ford for not disabling Drift Mode on the new Focus RS. Drifting, burnouts, and other forms of hooning are outlawed across much of Australia, and anyone caught breaking the laws can face harsh penalties, including confiscation of their vehicle. Ford says Drift Mode is not meant for use on public roads, but at least one Australian safety advocate is still speaking out against the feature, claiming some people will be still be tempted to use it—and calling for Ford to remove the feature.
