# Hector Olivera Buys $3.5 Million Lykan HyperSport

When it comes to athletes known for dropping outrageous sums of money on outrageous supercars, the usual names are Floyd Mayweather or [Yoenis Cespedes](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/2411/the-miami-tuners-responsible-for-yoenis-c-spedes-wildest-rides>). Which is why it’s a little shocking that Hector Olivera, a Major League Baseball outfielder who is currently a free agent [after being released by the San Diego Padres months after an arrest for assault and battery](<https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/hector-olivera>), just shelled out $3.5 million for a Lykan HyperSport.

The 31-year-old Cuban-born Olivera was originally signed to the Los Angeles Dodgers with a $62.5 million contract, but his underwhelming performance led to his being bounced to the Atlanta Braves, who also declined to re-sign him. Without a team, it seems Olivera will have plenty of time to drive his new Lykan.

The car, one of only seven to be built, is powered by a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine tuned by RUF, good for a whopping 780 horsepower and 708 lb.-ft. of torque. It’ll rip to 60 in 2.8 seconds and has a reported top speed of 240 miles per hour. It also has 420 diamonds, amounting to 15 carats, embedded in the headlights—although if Olivera’s not a fan of those precious stones, he can opt for rubies, sapphires or yellow diamonds instead.

The stitching on the seats incorporates real gold, because of course it does, and there’s a holographic display system that uses gesture displays on the center console. But wouldn’t you expect to get all that if you’re buying the world’s third-most expensive car? (Behind the Lamborghini Veneno and the Maybach Exelero, if you were wondering.)

However, having a one-of-seven car isn’t unique enough for Olivera, so he sent the car to a Miami tuner to further tweak the interior and add a set of rims. The garage made a quick video showing off the Lykan HyperSport, which you can see below. We promise the exhaust notes are worth suffering through that horrible music in the beginning.
