[Aston Martin](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/17103/the-best-and-worst-hypercars-of-2017>) is expected to file for an initial public offering in London later this year that could ultimately make the luxury automaker worth about $6.8 billion, according to [*Bloomberg News*](<https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-08/aston-martin-is-said-to-seek-6-8-billion-value-in-potential-ipo>), citing anonymous sources.

The company, whose vehicles were made famous by James Bond, reportedly [hired investment bank Lazard](<https://www.reuters.com/article/us-aston-martin-m-a-exclusive/exclusive-aston-martin-owners-rev-up-for-2018-exit-with-lazard-hire-idUSKBN1E92MY>), possibly to make plans for an IPO in the latter half of this year, *Reuters* reported last month, also citing anonymous sources.

[Aston Martin reported record sales](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/17370/aston-martin-reports-record-sales-sold-more-than-5000-cars-in-2017>) of more than 5,000 vehicles in 2017. But the company has still faced some challenges. [Aston Martin recalled 5,000 vehicles](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/17209/aston-martin-recalls-more-cars-in-the-u-s-than-it-sold-last-year>) built between 2009 and 2016, as *The Drive* previously reported. As early as May 2017, prior to the recall, [Aston Martin was rumored](<https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-18/aston-martin-said-to-consider-london-ipo-as-soon-as-next-year>) to be planning an IPO, according to *Bloomberg.*

Despite these growing pains, Aston's growth has been tremendous in recent years with CEO Andy Palmer commandeering the British marque. Megaprojects like the [Valkyrie hypercar](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/11804/the-aston-martin-valkyrie-will-have-1130-horsepower-report-says>) as well as a [potential Formula 1 bid](<https://www.thedrive.com/start-finish/15893/four-engine-makers-considering-f1-programs-for-2021-report-says>) could bump the company into a similar category as Ferrari and other global giants. With expanded road car and racing efforts [in the cards](<https://www.thedrive.com/accelerator/16319/aston-martin-reveals-all-new-vantage-gte-for-wec-competition>), public backing could be what Aston Martin needs to transition to the upper echelon of sport luxury manufacturers.

Aston Martin didn't immediately respond to *The Drive's* request for comment, but previously declined to comment to other news outlets on speculation of an IPO.
