Infotainment systems might be dull and never work properly, but smartphone-centered, hands-free technology is the best feature to come out of the aging center displays. Android Auto and [Apple CarPlay](<https://www.thedrive.com/tech/9150/mercedes-benz-commercial-trucks-now-have-apple-carplay-too>) allow users to integrate their phones with their cars without the frustrations of [Bluetooth](<https://www.thedrive.com/gear-up/2337/streaming-spotify-in-your-car-chews-up-your-cell-data-plan>). Users can then utilize useful, vehicle-tailored apps to make driving and staying connected safer and easier. If for some reason you're an Android user who owns a car with CarPlay but not [Android Auto](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/5896/google-makes-android-auto-available-in-all-cars>) or an iPhone user who likes Google Play services, today's your lucky day. According to [*The Verge*](<https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/20/16006174/google-play-music-apple-ios-carplay-now-available>), Google Play Music officially works with [CarPlay](<https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/20/16006174/google-play-music-apple-ios-carplay-now-available>) now, meaning you'll have more options when it comes to listening on the go.

Considering [Apple's](<https://www.thedrive.com/tech/3028/the-apple-car-is-real-and-you-will-never-be-able-to-buy-one>) love for proprietary software, it's pretty surprising that the largest tech company around would allow its music program's rival, Google Play Music, onto its dashboard operating system. However, Macintosh aficionado site [*9To5Mac*](<https://9to5mac.com/2017/07/20/google-play-music-carplay/>) confirmed that the Google Music app now works with it. CarPlay already allows a variety of third party music applications including Spotify and Pandora, and of course Apple Music. Now users will be able to experience Google Play Music's benefits over the other apps and have more options when it comes to music on the go.

Hopefully, this crossover means that Apple is considering porting other Google Play features over to CarPlay, including the admittedly superior navigation service [Google Maps](<https://www.thedrive.com/tech/9698/google-maps-adds-feature-that-reminds-you-where-you-parked>). If not, there's still hope for [Waze](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/1168/all-hail-waze-king-of-the-map-apps>) implementation; either way, Apple is showing that it is ready to expand its arsenal of CarPlay applications.
