Volkswagen plans to unveil 10 new models over the coming years. An array of utility vehicles are on their way, led by the big-brute Atlas and the Arteon sedan. VW recently announced that they will also be treating the Jetta to a host of revisions as well, and production of the MK7 is slated to begin this December.

The current Jetta model hasn't seen a major refresh since 2011, though it did gain a facelift this past year. It's been riding on the last generation Golf platform, though the upcoming model year is expected to switch over to Volkswagen Audi's stellar MQB architecture. This base houses several current VW models including the Golf, Tiguan, and others.

Expect to see Volkswagen drop the TDI models with the Jetta, thanks to the Dieselgate fiasco. Diesel options have been a popular choice in the past, so it'll be interesting to see how VW keeps up with a change in demand for the next iteration. Electrification is likely coming soon for the sedan as Volkswagen looks to introduce a host of EVs by 2020.

An upgraded GLI version will surely come soon after the model's release, taking cues from the category-leading GTI in terms of driving dynamics and usability. Enthusiasts have been begging for an MQB based GLI for some time, so this should supply the community with plenty to play with.

Production is set to begin in December of this year, so it's likely that we will see its debut at the Detroit Auto Show shortly after.
