The F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a photographer’s dream. Race weekend brings everything, from desert sunsets to upper-level perches, strange reflections and geometric wonders. Part of it’s the open layout and modern paddock; part of it’s the circuit itself. Yas Marina is an architectural wonder, and, as one of the sport’s newest venues, built explicitly to present beautifully in television and glossy digital stills.
So, each year, motorsport shooters return from the F1 finale with a treasure trove of photographic goodness. Hundreds and hundreds of arts-grade pictures, from practice and qualifying and the day-to-night Grand Prix, the sort of stuff you’d frame and hang up in the living room.
Emotional, interesting, clever, or just plain weird, here are a few of this year’s best shots.
