UPDATE: Stadium Super Truck race red-flagged at Detroit
Driver Matt Mingay transported to hospital, is in critical condition
UPDATE: This statement from the SST series: "Matt Mingay was transported to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is currently listed in serious condition, but is stable at this time, according to a hospital spokesperson. According to Mingay’s family, he suffered facial injuries."
The second Speed energy Stadium Super Truck race at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix has been red-flagged after one completed lap, after Australian professional stuntman Matt Mingay's number 14 rolled over hard. The race was stopped and not restarted, and Mingay was removed from the truck and transported to the hospital. This was Mingay's first outing on American soil. He won a Stadium Super Truck race in Australia but crashed hard in his Hot Wheels truck in the second race at the Clipsal 500.
Mingay finished ninth in the first race of the day, which was won by Matt Brabham, subbing for series principal Robbie Gordon, who is competing in the Baja 500.
The Detroit GP released a statement that Mingay was admitted to the Detroit Receiving Hospital, but had no other information. That's all we have now, more later, but we get the feeling Mingay could uses some prayers and positive thoughts.
