VW Atlas Weekend Concept Makes Chicago Auto Show Debut
Adding a little adventure to VW's newest SUV.
Volkswagen has released their Atlas Weekend Concept, promising a little more fun to accompany their freshest utility vehicle. Due for release this spring, the Atlas is slated to be part of Volkswagen's future past the Dieselgate scandals, fulfilling light hearted and practical needs for customers looking to purchase an SUV. With the Weekend Concept, the Atlas gains some accessories that'll help you get away from the every day grind and set off on a real adventure.
Essentially, this is a package that you could have equipped by the dealer. It doesn't feature any major alterations to the car's construction, making it easy and accessible to customers. New additions include different multi-spoke wheels, an Urban Loader cargo box and cargo divider, a rack that can be quickly tied down with skis or a kayak, and window/hood deflectors. The trunk is coated in tough liner to protect against damage with all weather floor mats coming as standard.
The Atlas Weekend Concept builds off of the SEL Premium package. Essentially, it's a top of the line Atlas with added bits to make it more fun. Sounds perfect, doesn't it? It'll be powered by 3.6L VR6 engine that VW uses in various models, producing 276 HP. 4Motion All Wheel Drive will also be standard, making sure that you have the capability to pair with your new go-anywhere accessories.
This looks to be a nice break from all business luxury SUVs that we see today. Everyone is looking to make their utility vehicles comfort-centric, doing away with the original purpose of the truck. VW may be onto something with this rendition of the Atlas, and we're anxious to pit it against its class competitors.
