Mercedes is shamelessly adding its striking Panamericana radiator grille to every model it can. First used in the AMG GT, it’s making another showing in the big boy S-Class Coupe. Both the S63 4MATIC+ and S65 can be outfitted with the grille in both coupe and cabriolet body styles. That’s the most distinctive visual cue of the new model but there is a host of technical upgrades as well.

First, the S63 gets rid of the old 5.5L biturbo V8 in favor of the AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo with twin-scroll turbochargers and cylinder deactivation in the Coupe. Despite the much smaller displacement the new V8 pumps out 27 more horsepower than the old model, raising the output to a street-pounding 612 horsepower. The S65 coupe and cabriolet retain last year’s AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo with 630 hp.

Putting all that rage to the road is the new AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission. It’s also the fist time the fully variable all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC+ is available in the S-Class coupe and cabriolet.

In addition to the grille, the exterior gets side skirts with three-dimensional inlays in high-sheen chrome. On the V12 models, there is an exclusive set of forged wheels with 16 twisting spokes meant to catch the light with their contours to radiate the center of the wheel hub.

There’s also an exclusive “Yellow Night Edition” of the S63 4MATIC+ Coupe and S63 Couple. The special model can be painted selenite grey magno or night black magno with a discreet yellow trim strip on the exterior mirror housing to clue you in on the special edition. The interior will also feature many yellow accents decorating the seats, steering wheel, dashboard, armrests and other interior components.

Speaking on the new upgrades Tobas Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said, "Having already undertaken major development work on our S-Class Saloon to further enhance driving performance and individuality, we are now making the same changes to the S 63 4MATIC+ Coupé and Cabriolet. The extensive modifications are designed to strengthen our leading position in this dream car segment in terms of driving dynamics, performance, equipment and comfort on long journeys. The S 65 Coupé and Cabriolet with their high-torque 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine remain the most elite form of the S-Class."
