Update, 3:30 p.m.: Officials have announced that one person has dead and 108 were injured in the crash

Some breaking news from right here in The Drive's own backyard this morning: A New Jersey Transit train has derailed just outside New York City, reportedly killing at least one person and injuring more than 100 and destroying a substantial portion of a train station.

Reports are still coming in, but initial witness reports claim the train never slowed down as it entered the the Lackawana Station in Hoboken shortly before 9 a.m. this morning, apparently smashing into the terminal at full force before coming to a stop between the waiting area and the platforms. Most of the injured were either in the first car or were waiting on the platform, according to WABC News. Passengers reported the train was New Jersey Transit No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line, originally scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 8:38 a.m.

Images and reports posted to social media reveal significnt destruction inside the station, including a collapsing roof, crumbling walls, and tangles of metal supports cast about.

A senior transportation official told The New York Times that at least one person was killed in the crash. New Jersey Transit reports multiple victims are still trapped on the scene, according to WABC, and state EMS workers are reporting more than 100 injured. Federal investigators have already been dispatched to the scene, according to multiple reports.

All train service in and out of the station has been suspended. New Jersey Transit buses and NY Waterway ferry boats are currently honoring train tickets and passes, while Uber's New Jersey Twitter account says the company will refund rides from the station until noon.

The Drive will continue to update this story as we learn more.
