2017 Subaru BRZ Series.Yellow Is Obviously Named, Very Yellow
Don’t call it mellow, though.
Here is everything you need to know about the 2017 Subaru BRZ Series.Yellow in one sentence:
It is very, very yellow.
Not yellow in the "What's the matter, McFly?" sense. Yellow in the sense that its exterior paint reflects a shocking amount of the visible light spectrum between the wavelengths of 570 and 590 nanometers. Yellow in the sense that it could confuse sunflower-seeking bumblebees into trying to pollenate it. Yellow in the sense that Bart Simpson could camouflage himself next to it like Tobias Fünke against a moving van.
Of course, no manufacturer's special would be complete with just a new coat of paint, so the BRZ Series.Yellow also scoops up blacked-out side view mirrors, badges, and 17-x-7.5-inch aluminum wheels. The black leather-and-Alcantara interior scores contrasting yellow stitching, and—get this—the Series.Yellow even gets unique floor mats.
Apart from the retina-flaying paint job and matching trim bits, the Series.Yellow is pretty much just a 2017 BRZ Limited that's been hotted-up with the Performance Package the carmaker added to the options list for the new model year. Four-piston Brembo brakes up front and dual-piston ones out back slow this yellow car down in a hurry, while Sachs Performance shocks help the BRZ handle the twisties with extra panache.
And of course, like every 2017 Subaru BRZ, the Series.Yellow benefits from a mild power bump (output has risen to 205-hp and 156-lb.-ft.), a lower final drive ratio, and revised front and rear faschiae with LED lights. The chassis has been beefed up for extra rigidity, and the stability system has been reprogrammed to allow the BRZ even greater ability to salsa without losing the safety net. And because this is 2016, every BRZ now comes with a 6.2-in high-res touch screen infotainment system.
The Series.Yellow, which debuted this weekend at the wonderfully-New England-sounding Wicked Big Meet in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, is hardly Subaru's first grammatically-reprehensible color-themed special edition. The carmaker introduced the Series.Blue Special Edition back in 2014, followed a year later by the BRZ Series.HyperBlue. If that tradition holds, we can expect a Super.Yellow model come 2017, followed by Series.Red and Series.UltraRed models in 2018 and 2019, respectively. At which point, the Primary.Colors and Superlative.Colors series will both be complete.
