McLaren has confirmed it will produce a droptop variant of the 570S this year, according to Autocar. That means it will be easier than ever to hear the mechanical orchestra—McLaren's notorious M838T engine, which in 570S trim, makes 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque—that sits right behind the driver. It's unlikely these figures will be changed for the 570S Spider, given McLaren's traditional method for turning its coupes into convertibles.

McLaren is also known for adding surprisingly little weight to its convertibles, too—an engineering feat most automakers have trouble doing. Since all McLarens use a carbon fiber monocoque, which creates a remarkably stiff chassis, very little is needed in terms of adding strengthening to transform an existing coupe into a convertible. The 650S Spider only weighed 88 more pounds than its coupe counterpart; we don't expect the 570S Spider to weigh that much more than the 570S Coupe.

Unfortunately, that clever weight-shaving doesn't come cheap—historically, McLaren convertibles have cost roughly $25,000 more compared to their fixed-roof counterparts. But can you really put a price on hearing that exquisite exhaust note more clearly?
